MPH Tester is designed with privacy as a core principle. We believe you should be able to check your speed without being tracked or having your location data harvested.
The short version: Your GPS data never leaves your device. We do not collect, store, or sell your location information.
GPS and Location Data
When you use MPH Tester, your device's GPS provides location and speed data directly to your web browser. This data is processed entirely on your device.
What we DO NOT collect:
- ✔ Your GPS coordinates
- ✔ Your speed measurements
- ✔ Your movement history or routes
- ✔ Your device's location when not using the speed test
How it works technically:
The browser's Geolocation API provides GPS data directly to JavaScript running on your device. This data is displayed on screen and is never transmitted to our servers. When you close the page, all speed data is gone.
Website Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how people use our website. This helps us improve the service.
What analytics collects:
- Pages visited (e.g., homepage, car speed test)
- Approximate location (country/city level, not precise GPS)
- Device type (mobile, desktop, tablet)
- Browser and operating system
- How you found our site (search engine, direct link, etc.)
What analytics does NOT collect:
- Your precise GPS location
- Your speed measurements
- Any personally identifiable information
Google Analytics data is anonymized and aggregated. We cannot identify individual users.
Cookies
MPH Tester uses minimal cookies:

Since we don't collect or store your GPS data, there's nothing to secure on our end. Your speed measurements exist only in your browser's memory while you're using the tool.
Our website is served over HTTPS to ensure your connection is encrypted.
Children's Privacy
MPH Tester is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.
Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your personal data under laws like GDPR (Europe) or CCPA (California).
